AppImageLauncher: Utility App to Run and Manage AppImages on Ubuntu

There are several ways to install apps on Ubuntu. One among them is using AppImage files of the software. Installing through AppImage is bit different and you may need extra works to manage and update the app.

AppImageLauncher is a small software which makes your Ubuntu PC AppImage ready. This means you don’t need to do additional steps of AppImage installation manually. For example you don’t have to make the files executable. Apart from that, this app helps to integrate AppImages with desktop and also helps to update the softwares.

How to Install AppImageLauncher on Ubuntu

You can install AppImageLauncher by executing the following commands on Ubuntu terminal.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:appimagelauncher-team/stable
sudo apt update
sudo apt install appimagelauncher

That’s it. Alternatively, you can go to the official release page of AppImageLauncher app and download the .deb file.

Open the downloaded file and install the app.

How to Use AppImageLauncher

Try opening any downloaded AppImage file. It will show you the following message which says the AppImages are moved to Applications directory.

As you see, you can click on OK. The next dialog asks you the following question.

I prefer Integrate and run option so that I can keep the app. That’s it, now the clicked AppImage file is integrated and the software is opened. After that you can open the app anytime by searching it.

If you want to uninstall the app then just right click on the app icon and choose Remove Appimage from system from the options.
